Spline|UV-Mapping Plugin for MAXON CINEMA 4D
The Spline UV-Mapping plugin allows you to quickly create UV-coordinates for any mesh, enabling UV-mapping on meshes created with 3D scanners, VDB meshing tools, or similar methods. The U-coordinates are aligned along a user-defined spline object, while the V-coordinates are set by spherical or planar projection.
How It Works:
- Right-click the object you want to edit and select the “Spline UV-Mapping” tag from the context menu.
- Create a spline object that follows the shape of your mesh and drag it into the plugin tag.
- UV-coordinates are generated based on the spline’s shape and rotation.
The created UV-coordinates are stored in a UVW tag. Once the UVs are generated, the plugin tag can be removed, allowing the mesh to continue through the texturing, animation, or rendering process. The plugin automatically switches texture tags to “UVW Mapping” mode when applied.
Tag Tab
- Spline: Link your spline object here. The U-coordinates are generated based on the nearest point on the spline.
- Uniform: Distributes spline sampling points uniformly along the spline.
- Use Spline Intermediate Points: Samples the spline visible in the viewport.
- Force High Quality: Ensures high-quality sampling, especially when “Uniform” is disabled.
- Selection Tag: Restrict the plugin’s effect to a specific selection.
- Invert Selection: Inverts the selection specified by the linked selection tag.
- UVW Tag: Link a UVW tag to modify specific UV data.
- Projection Type: Choose between spherical or line-based projection methods.
- Size: Scale V-coordinates when using the “Line” projection type.
- Switch UV: Swap U and V-coordinates.
- Invert U/V: Inverts U or V-coordinates.
- Apply: Forces the plugin to execute.
- Auto Update: Automatically executes the plugin when changes occur in the spline, object, or plugin tag.
Knots Tab
- Knot Count: Define the number of knots (3 to 10).
- Draw Knots: Displays knots as white circles in the editor.
- Radius: Adjusts the knot display size.
- Reset: Resets knot offsets to zero.
- Auto Align: Distributes knots uniformly along the spline.
